"Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness" breakout Xochitl Gomez and Rebelde queen Maite Perroni are teaming up for a new original musical film "No Te Olvides" (Don't Forget), and it sounds like the kind of movie that'll make you cry, laugh, and then cry happy tears again. This feel-everything project comes from writer Nerris Nevarez-Nassiri and is directed by Kimberly McCullough , so expect all the emotional punch and playlist-worthy songs. According to Deadline , production kicks off this fall.

What's 'No Te Olvides' About? At the story's center is María, played by Gomez, a closeted twenty-something Chicana navigating the messy but beautiful terrain of identity, family, and love. When her grandmother's memory starts slipping due to Alzheimer's, María goes on a mission to fulfill her final wish, to return to her rural Mexican hometown one last time. There's just one problem: María's mom, Celestina (played by Perroni), isn't on board with the plan.



What follows is a cross-border road trip of three generations of Mexican-American women rediscovering each other and themselves. It's giving "Coco" meets "The Farewell" meets "In the Heights," but make it live-action, Latina-led, and grounded in the nuances of bicultural identity.
