Crews have been working for a couple of weeks inside the former First Baptist Church at 601 Washington St., removing flooring, woodwork and fixtures, all to be sold. CG McPike of the Quincy, Illinois, area, and Jon Shepherd and John Kindhart, both of Quincy, Illinois, operating as Midwest Reclaim and Vintage Wood, purchased the long-unused, vacant, 96,000-square-foot brick building in August 2024 with plans to demolish the downtown structure long in disrepair and sell the property.

McPike said he is amazed by the quality of items found inside. A smaller-sized stained glass window of about 40-by-30 inches can be gotten for $500. Certain windows, he said, may interest some locals as they contain family names.

Other items being sold include pocket doors and other types of doors and cabinets. Kindhart has posted for sale “4,000 square foot of beautiful longleaf pine flooring” from the church on Burlington Buy Sell Trade Everything Goes!!! (Iowa) on Facebook. Or, anyone interested in buying artifacts from the church can make an appointment by calling McPike at 573-822-1126.
